Glen Cairn PS takes Iditarod challenge

Jennifer Martino and staff member Virginia Dahms recently led the Healthy School Committee at London’s Glen Cairn Public School in challenging each grade to collectively walk 1,100 miles (1,770 km) – the equivalent of the Alaska's famous Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race.
Teacher Pete Babcock helped kick off the Iditarod Challenge by strapping on some snowshoes and racing ‘Keiko’ the Siberian husky – a perfect match for the school’s team name, the Huskies.
To reach their goal, students will keep track of the distance they walk to and from school.
News of Glen Cairn’s interesting event made news in the London Free Press and as far away as the Alaska Dispatch.
